(Release Notes) Build 2300 - 2399

This update adds the following:

  • Business Rules, Web Service, NT Service – Application Variables can now be used in Business Rule parameters for all Library rules. The syntax is the same as using Application Variables within reports. However, Application Variables do NOT include any of the System Variables.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – This fixes a bug where input in Excel was limited to a precision of 6 digits to the right of the decimal point. With this update our Excel Addin will be able handle numbers as large as 32 digits to the left of the decimal point or numbers as small as 32 digits to the right of the decimal point. However, beyond that the input of numbers in Excel and storage of numbers in the FACT table will still be constrained by the normal limitations of floating point numbers and Excel itself.
  • Business Rules – Not entering a value for the Precision parameter in business rules will no longer cause the rule to fail. Each rule with a Precision parameter has a default precision which is displayed in the parameter message on the Business Rule Editor screen.
  • Excel Addin – Fixed a problem in build 2346 where in the Book Editor when an existing workbook node selected, switching the Source to Local File and back to Shared Library could cause Excel to crash.
  • Excel Addin – Fixed a problem in build 2346 where in the Book Editor an index of published reports was only created when Create PDF Files was selected.
  • Modeler – In the Dimension Editor attempting to move a new member before the dimension has been saved will no longer cause an exception to occur.
  • Web Service – Fixed a problem that would cause email notifications to fail with an authentication error.

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – Report Sort and Rank now support Significant Count and Significant Percent. Significant Count and Significant Percent sort and rank based on absolute values.
  • Excel Addin – Report Rank and Investigation Rank now support Standard Deviation. Specify the number of standard deviations as the count. All members with values within the specified standard deviations are suppressed so that only members with values outside the specified standard deviations are displayed.
  • Excel Addin – The flow through the report wizard dialog boxes has been changed. The first wizard presented allows a user to start from scratch without any prebuild wizards. To reach the prebuild row and column wizards, click the Template button on the first wizard dialog box.
  • Excel Addin – Report options now have a Set All and Clear All button to easily set or clear all report level override members. (Note: CV Override members are now referred to as Slicers which is more consistent with normal OLAP terminology. It also clarifies things by giving different names to things defined within a report versus the Current View which is set outside a report definition on the Control Panel.)
  • Excel Addin – Book Publishing has added publishing to pdf files. (Note: This is only available in Excel 2010 or later.)
  • Excel Addin – Book Publishing now allows a user to specify which folder reports will be published to. This includes support to publishing to a network share. (Note: When publishing to a network share, the folder specified must already exist. The folder can be created as part of defining the book.)
  • Excel Addin, Web Service – Published reports can now be automatically emailed as part of publishing the report. (Note: Emailing published book reports requires a server running Windows 2008 or later. This feature will not work on a server running Windows 2003)
  • Excel Addin – Book Publishing can now be scheduled to take place automatically with the new command line switches and an Action file to specify the book to publish. See the Schedule Actions section in the updated User Guide for additional information.
  • Excel Addin – Users can modify their user information in their profile on the server. The User Profile dialog box is available from the About screen and allows users to modify their own email address and display name.
  • Web Service – Custom dimension types now support designating an Analysis Services dimension type to deploy as. See the document “Custom Dimension Types.docx” in the online Knowledge base for additional info on custom dimension types.
  • Performance Management Ribbon – With Excel 2013, the Callisto Tab is automatically selected when a workbook is opened with Open Shared Library.

This update fixes the following:

  • Web Service – Validate Users and Deploy now works with built-in NT Authority groups again.
  • Web Service – Application Export User Definitions and Application Extract All could fail under certain conditions on Security Roles, and will now succeed.
  • Performance Management Ribbon – With Excel 2013, attempting to reopen a workbook from the shared library when it is already open under some conditions will no longer cause Excel to crash.

(Caution: This updates requires .Net 4.5 on the server. If your server does not have .Net 4.5 installed you can get it from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653 )

(Note: Support for servers running Windows 2003 will be discontinued at some point in the future. A server running Windows 2003 requires manual configuration changes to IIS for this update to run. If you are still running Windows 2003 on a server, please contact us for further instructions.)

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – Input Schedules have a new option to allow users to select suppressed and add for input the first time. In the report editor “User add suppressed items” is now available for Expand nodes on rows. When nodes are nested, this option is only available on the lowest level nested node.
  • Excel Addin – Reports in the Shared Library can be secured for sharing only with selected users.
  • Excel Addin – Shared Library now includes support for Personal workbooks that can also be shared with selected users.
  • Excel Addin – Shared Library now includes email notification to sharing users on updates to the library.
  • Excel Addin – Investigator is now complete. Investigations are persisted, so when reports are saved the Investigations are included in the report definitions. This allows users to discover something interesting and share it with other users.
  • Web Service – User ids are now validated before adding to AS security. So now Deploy and Deploy All Users return an error message for each invalid user id but the Deploy does not fail.

This update fixes the following:

  • BusinessRuleLibrary – Multiply and Divide rules now handle Time offsets. Other rules now handle Time offsets into the future.
  • Modeler – Security can now be defined on Dimensions with a space in the Label.
  • Excel Addin – Input schedules now work properly when there are invalid values in the hidden first row or hidden first column of defined reports.
  • Excel Addin – CLCurrentMember function no longer causes Excel 2003 to crash.
  • Excel Addin – When CL_RefreshReport is called from vba code in Excel 2013 you may encounter problems copying down cell formulas and formats within report expansions. In this case, use the CL_MacroRefreshReports(True, False, True) to get the correct results. This macro detects Excel 2013 is running and internally changes the request into an asynchronous request that avoids the Excel 2013 internal issue.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Property Nodes in report rows work correctly again. (Note: In build 2342 a regression was introduced so that Property Nodes in report rows were not returning values.)

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – Report refresh times have been significantly optimized. For large input schedules with a very large number of suppressed rows the improvement can be very significant. Testing in the lab has shown refresh times up to 4.5 times faster. Normal small reports will not see improvements that dramatic.
  • BusinessRuleLibrary, Modeler, Web Services, NT Service – Added a new business rule to run SSIS packages. (Note: To update the NT Service properly, you will need to run the update once, close the ServerUpdate program and then apply the update a second time.)

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Report name and report actions are now always saved properly by the Report Editor.
  • Excel Addin – Attempting to reopen an input schedule that is already open from the Ribbon will no longer crash Excel.

(Caution: Beginning with this release .Net 4 is required on the server. If your server does not already have .Net 4 you can download it from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/net/download )

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – A beta version of the new Investigator is included. This new feature is not yet complete, but even in preliminary form it has proven so useful internally when tracking down numbers, that we decided to release the preliminary version in beta form. Please feel free to supply us feedback as we complete work on this new feature. You can investigate a number within a report by right clicking a cell and selecting Investigate from the menu. When you refresh the report, all investigations are cleared.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – CLSend works again. It was broken in build 2320.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – CV member selection of a virtual member in a view is now preserved correctly when closing and reopening Excel.
  • BusinessRuleLibrary – ICElimination rule now eliminates correctly. (Note: The intercompany dimension must contain a member property with the same name as the appropriate entity type dimension, and each intercompany leaf level member must point to the appropriate leaf level member in the entity type dimension.)

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Selecting a localized language works properly again. It was broken in build 2320.
  • Modeler – Within the Dimension Editor, selecting the Hierarchy tab on large dimensions is much faster.

(Note: For performance reasons the member list on the Hierarchy tab is no longer sorted. With the Filter capability it now much easier to find any desired members and therefore sorting was not considered worth the heavy performance penalty.)

This update fixes the following:

  • Modeler – Deleting and changing multiple unlock members at the same time now works properly.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – When using the Ribbon, editing a report in the report wizard editor no longer hangs Excel.
  • Excel Addin – Within the Book Publisher the Create Index setting is saved and retrieved properly.
  • Web Services – Large worksheets using large numbers of CLValue functions could be missing data or display wrong data. Now all the correct data is displayed.
  • Web Services – Start Period and End Period on a Legal Entity dimension was not restricting data in the Model properly. Now data only appears in the cube within the Start Period and End Period range.

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – Report Editor now supports drag and drop to move node definitions within a report.
  • Excel Addin – Report Editor and Report Wizard now support Copy Paste to copy node definitions between reports.
  • Modeler – Dimension Editor now supports filtering rows on the Member tab and on the Hierarchy tab. Note: The new filter replaces the old search.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Entering an invalid userid or password now returns an appropriate error message on the logon dialog box.
  • Excel Addin – Fixed a problem where a worksheet with a very large number of CLValue and/or CLSend functions might stop returning values.
  • Modeler – Dimension Editor now allows dimension types to be changed to user defined dimension types.

(Note: This build includes a full server install. The update zip file includes all files and can be used to update from any previous build without applying any previous updates.)

(Note: Ribbon support should be added to Excel with the PerformanceManagementRibbon install for all versions of Excel, except Excel 2007. There is only one install for both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Excel. At some point in the future the CallistoRibbon64 install will be removed, since all 64 bit versions of Excel should use the PerformanceManagementRibbon install.)

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – CL_SelectCVMember and CL_SelectMember macros are no longer missing the first character in the value returned. This fixes a problem introduced in build 2320.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – CLCurrentMember function now refreshes properly during a Report refresh. This fixes a problem introduced in build 2320.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Fixed a connection problem during logon. On some servers using a different port than the default port 80, you could get a connection error when attempting to logon. This problem was introduced in build 2320.
  • Excel Addin – CLValue now properly returns #NA whenever an invalid member id is supplied in single parameters or a range of parameters. This fixes a problem introduced in build 2311.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Resized Report Wizard dialog box to fit typical lap top screens with a height of 768.
  • Excel Addin – Fixed Copy Down, Copy Across problem in the Member Selector. There was a problem introduced in Build 2320.
  • Excel Addin – CallistoRibbon stopped working in Build 2320, with an error message occurring after selecting a Model during Logon. This problem has been fixed. (Note: For Excel 2010, the new PerformanceManagementRibbon is recommended. For Excel 2013, only the new PerformanceManagementRibbon works.)

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – Report Wizard has been overhauled. Dimensions can be dragged onto a report and nested to any level, and to any number of rows or columns. Rows and Columns with the report grid can be dragged and dropped to rearrange the report. Many definitions are now available to be set and maintained within the wizard. A report created with the Wizard will be automatically edited with the Wizard when a user clicks the Edit Report button.
  • Web Server, Modeler – Dimension Types can be extended with the DimensionTypeExtension table. All extended dimension types will be treated like Generic dimensions with no special behaviors built into the Modeler, however they can be used for application customizations in things such as Business Rules and the end user UI in Excel. To extend Dimension Types, add a table named “DimensionTypeExtension” in the CallistoAppDictionary database. This table must contain one field “DimensionType” defined as nvarchar(50) not null. When a dimension is defined as an extended dimension type, the new dimension type will be used as the Type field value in the Dimensions and S_Dimensions tables within the Application database.
  • Excel Addin – CL_SelectCVMember and CL_SelectMember macros now support the “Legal Entity time filter” for LegalEntity type dimensions. To set this filter in the macro call, just include the Property name “LEGALENTITYTIMEDIM” in the Property filter settings. If the property name exists in the filter, the “Legal Entity time filter” is set.

This update fixes the following:

  • Web Service – Data extract time out is now properly controlled by the Query Timeout setting. Data extracts against large databases could fail with an empty error message due to IIS timeouts.
  • Modeler – Validate Users and Validate All Users in Security Roles has been moved to the server, so the results returned should now be reliable.
  • Excel Addin – Legal Entity time filter setting is now preserved during the current session just like other Property filters in the Member Selector dialog box.

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – Supports double byte languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.
  • Excel Ribbon – The new Performance Management Ribbon originally delivered in Build 2307 now supports Excel 2010 as well as Excel 2013. This Ribbon uses the later Microsoft developer tools that solve a problem in the old Office 2007 developer tools, which would prevent the proper operation of Excel when embedded in a Word document. The Performance Management Ribbon install supports Excel 2010 and Excel 2013, both 32 bit and 64 bit.
  • Modeler – Save dimension in the Dimension editor now performs additional validations on hierarchies. All hierarchy members are validated to insure a member is not defined as a parent in one hierarchy and a leaf member in another hierarchy. In addition, all hierarchy parents are validated to insure all parents have the same children in all hierarchies. If any member does not pass these validations, a warning message is shown and the user is given the options to either save the dimension, or not save the dimension and correct the warning conditions.
  • Modeler – A new optional System Property “NODETYPE” has been added. This MUST be defined as a “Text” property with a Size of “1”. When a dimension is saved this property is automatically set to “P” or “L” to indicate if the member is a Parent or Leaf member in hierarchies. The property can also be manually set to a value of “C” on the Members tab to indicate this member is actually calculated by a formula in the Dynamic business rules. This use of the property is optional. When the property is manually set to a value of “C”, the property will not be automatically set to any other value by the Modeler. This property can be used in Database Locks to easily unlock for input, only Leaf level members that are not calculated.
  • Modeler – A new optional System Property “RNODETYPE” has been added. This property can be used by partners in distribution of Application libraries or programs that automatically create and update applications from source systems, such as General Ledger systems, to control how users can extend an application beyond what may be available from the source system. Validations based on this Property are treated as Errors, so the user is NOT allowed to save a dimension until the errors are corrected. The values set in this property can insure a member can only be used as a Parent or a Leaf member. This property must defined as a “Text” property with a size of 1 or 2. The valid values for this property and validations are as follows:
    1. “P” – Member must be defined as a Parent member in all hierarchies it occurs in.
    2. “PC” – Member must be defined as a Parent member in all hierarchies it occurs in. If a “NODETYPE” property is defined it will be automatically set to “C”.
    3. “L” – Member must be defined as a Leaf member in all hierarchies it occurs in.
    4. “LC” – Member must be defined as Leaf member in all hierarchies it occurs in. If a “NODETYPE” property is defined it will be automatically set to “C”.
    5. Blank – No validation takes place.
  • Web Service – Additional debug information is now available on all queries against Analysis Services. In the Modeler System Setup, when the NT Service Settings, Trace Level is set to Debug it also turns on query debug information for the Web Service. This information is logged in the CallistoWebService.log file located in the Web_Service folder. Information is logged about all MDX queries generated by reports from the Excel Addin and about all Discovery queries for meta data generated by the Excel Addin, and the results returned to Excel for all the logged queries.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – In Excel 2013 drill down reports now display correctly.
  • Modeler – Workflow editor does not allow duplicate Assignment names to be entered.
  • Modeler – Workflow editor Export All now exports user assignments correctly, so when the workflows are imported, the users for assignments remained as defined before the export.

This update fixes the following:

  • Web Service – Fixed a Workflow Assignment problem when Assignments within a Workflow were defined with multiple dimensions.

This update adds the following:

  • Modeler – New StartupWorkbook parameter available on Model Summary. This parameter allows definition of a workbook from the Shared Library that will be automatically opened when any user logs onto the Model. This allows creation of highly tailored applications where the users are provided a highly defined and controlled user experience.
  • Excel Addin – New CL_GetInfo parameters of “appvars” and “appvarvalue” to retrieve information about application variables and resolve application variables. See the User Guide for additional information.

This update fixes the following:

  • Web Service – Fixed a Workflow security problem when a user had no Assignments within a Workflow.
  • Excel 2013 Ribbon – Task pane is now hidden when Security Role is set to Collapse Control Panel.
  • Modeler – Clicking Open Workflow action no longer causes a problem.

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – CLValue enhancements. See updated User Doc for details.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Reliability improved.
  • Excel 2013 Ribbon – Reliability is improved.

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – new CL_SelectApplication macro.
    • Syntax is CL_SelectApplication(string sApp, string sModel). Returns True or False.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Drill down is reliable in Excel 2013.
  • Excel Addin – CLSend of numbers and text within the same workbook is now reliable.
  • Excel 2013 Ribbon – Reliability is improved.
  • Web Service – Reliability is improved for some conditions that only occur when building an application externally.
  • Callisto Service – Improved debug messages to indicate partition names being processed.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Selecting a virtual parent member on a View hierarchy in a report is now handled properly again.
  • Excel Addin – Opening an Assignment form is reliable in Excel 2013.

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – Now supports Excel 2013.
  • Ribbon – A new Ribbon install has been added “PerformanceManagementRibbon”. As the install file indicates the new Ribbon is no longer called the Callisto Ribbon but is now call the Performance Management Ribbon whenever you hover over the Ribbon buttons. The old Ribbons will not work with Excel 2013. This new Ribbon only works with Excel 2013. There is only one version of the Ribbon for both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Excel 2013. Just like before the user is prompted to select the xll file. With the new Ribbon they just select whichever xll file they run. If they select the wrong version (i.e. 32 bit Ribbon when running 64 bit Excel) they will be notified they have selected the wrong version of the xll and asked to select the correct version of the xll.
  • Excel Addin – Selecting CV members from the Excel 2007 and Excel 2010 Ribbon works reliably again.

This update fixes the following:

  • BusinessRuleLibrary – Intercompany Eliminations rule now works correctly when the Entity type dimension is not named Entity.
  • Excel Addin – Dimensions without a hierarchy now properly display dimension names in mixed case and properly hide hidden members in the Member Selector.
  • Web Service – An error with the deploy of some dimensions has been fixed.

This update fixes the following:

  • Excel Addin – Members in some hierarchies were appearing in the wrong order and under some conditions some branches were missing.
  • Excel Addin, Web Service – Multilevel Member Views were incorrect.

This update fixes the following:

  • Modeler – When adding a new step to a Business Rule, the selected rule is properly added instead of the wrong rule.

This update adds the following:

  • Excel Addin – Logon times are significantly faster and memory usage is reduced for large applications. The method to read unsecured dimensions from the server and into memory has been redesigned for faster loading and reduced memory usage. (Note: Dimensions that have not been changed for a long time may have the children of parents show in the wrong order. To correct this, open the Dimension in the Modeler, Check Out and Save the dimension, then Check In and Deploy the application. It is important to explicitly Save the dimension to correct the issue.)
  • Excel Addin – Sorting and Ranking is now supported in reports. Expand and List nodes can be sorted in Ascending or Descending order, and they can be ranked by Top Count, Top Percent, Bottom Count, or Bottom Percent.
  • Excel Addin – Expand, List, Range, and Member nodes in reports now include 2 new options.
    1. Add totals – adds a total row/column to a report that contains the total of all the rows/columns generated for the node definition. When using nested expansion/list/range/member nodes totals rows/columns for any nested nodes are not included in the total to avoid double counting. The total node is always added at the end. The heading for the total node is a comma separated list of the detail headings.
    2. Suppress details – remove all detail rows/columns from the report for this node after the totals are calculated, and only display the Totals row/column.
  • Excel Addin – The Member Selector now includes a filter button. With this button, the user can filter the members displayed in the tree to show only a subset of interest. When a filter is set, the background color of the filter button changes to yellow. The filter is remembered for the dimension, so that the next time the member selector opens the same filter is still applied.
  • Excel Addin – The following macros include a new parameter so that a filter can be supplied when the member selector is opened. See the updated User Guide for details.
    1. CL_SelectCVMember
    2. CL_SelectMember
  • Excel Addin – New CL_ResetDrilldown macro. This macro can be used to define a drill down report that does not require the user to drill to a second report. To define a single report for drill downs that the use can return to the top of the drills, place a button or link on the worksheet that calls CL_ResetDrilldown with a parameter of the name of the report. When the user clicks the button, they will be returned to the location they started their drill downs.
  • Excel Addin – New Events for reports that can call macros. The Events are configured on the Options tab of the Report Editor. The following events can call macros.
    1. Before Refresh
    2. After Refresh
    3. Before Send – See new CL_CancelSend macro for ability to cancel a send before it takes place. This allows validation of data with a macro before it is sent to the server.
    4. After Send
  • Excel Addin – New CL_CancelSend macro. This macro can only be used to cancel a send from a macro being executed as part of the Before Send event. If called at any other time it has no effect.
