Business Rule Automation Overview
This product has almost unlimited possibilities to configure business rules. The configuration options are tiered according to the complexity of the business. It is worth noting that all of the options below are product configuration and will normally work through version upgrades of the product.
All Business rules can act across Legal Entity and Fiscal Year boundaries as well as on Statistical Accounts (which may only exist in this system) and could be entered through Microsoft Excel, pcMobile or systems integration. All of this which gives unprecedented flexibility to configure and automate business processes.
Tier 1 - Automation controlled from Microsoft Excel
This tier of automation is normally set-up and controlled from within Excel by the Budget Process Administrator.
- Automated initialization of new Scenarios are performed in the “Forecast” menu. See Administration in Microsoft Excel.
- Automated Assumptions and Calculations can be defined in Assumptions sheet
- Currency conversions are automated in Currency Conversion Menu
Tier 2 - Configuring the included business rules in the Modeler
This tier of automation is normally maintained by the Budget Process Administrator. Help from a skilled consultant may be a benefit in first time set-up.
- Automated Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) budgeting is configured in CAPEX rule setup.
- Automated Advanced Balance Sheet creation is configured in Balance Sheet rule setup.
- Automated Long Term Cash Flow creation is configured in Cash Flow rule setup.
Tier 3 - Creating your own Business Rules in the Modeler
This tier of automation is normally maintained by the Budget Process Administrator. Help from a skilled consultant is in most cases needed for first time set-up.
- The included Business Rule Editor can be used to setup rules for:
- Allocations - both for Budgets/ Forecasts and Actuals reporting
- Intercompany Eliminations - both for Budgets/ Forecasts and Actuals reporting
- Intercompany Matching
- … and support many other business scenarios both for reporting of Actuals and Budgets/ Forecasts/ Plans.
- The MDX Rule Editor can be used to setup calculation rules for:
- KPI & Performance Metrics calculations
- … and support many other business scenarios both for reporting of Actuals and Budgets/ Forecasts/ Plans.
Tier 4 - Using SQL to create Business Rules
This tier of automation is normally maintained by the Budget Process Administrator with help from SQL skilled developers. Help from a skilled developer consultant and/ or special developer training is necessary for first time set-up.
- MS SQL can be used to create custom business rules not catered for in above tiers.
