Time Intelligence

In most cases there is a time dimension involved in cubes and dashboards. Normally it is preferred to have a default value on the time dimension that moves when time passes by.

Depending on the circumstances there are several different ways that can be used to define a relevant default member in the time dimension. Here are some examples:

  1. The system clock on the server
  2. A manually updated field in a database
  3. Logics that depending on the raw data calculates a default member

When decided how to define the default member it is normally a good solution to use a named set in the cube that holds the default member. If there is a default member defined in a named set it is easy to use that named set as default value in the filter web part.
